Creative New Zealand is the
national arts development agency
developing, investing in and
advocating for the arts. It works to
help develop strong and dynamic
New Zealand arts, which are valued
in Aotearoa and internationally.
This is achieved by:
investing in artists, arts
practitioners and arts
organisations to develop and
distribute art for New Zealand and
international audiences
investing in capability
programmes for artists,
arts practitioners and arts
organisations, for example in
leadership and governance skills
or in developing new audiences
for their work
advocating on behalf of the arts
to make the case for the public
value of the arts and to create an
environment where the arts can
flourish.
Creative New Zealand was
established as a crown entity in
1994
and is funded by the New
Zealand Lottery Grants Board and
by the New Zealand Government
through the Ministry for Culture and
Heritage.

Crown Law provides legal advice
and representation services to the
government in matters affecting the
executive government, particularly
in the areas of criminal, public and
administrative law. The services
provided include such matters
as judicial review of government
actions, constitutional questions
including Treaty of Waitangi issues,
the enforcement of criminal law, and
protection of the revenue.
Crown Law administers the
prosecution process in the criminal
justice system, in particular, trials
on indictment before juries.
Crown Law has two primary
purposes in providing these
services:
To ensure that the operations and
responsibilities of the executive
government are conducted
lawfully, and
To ensure that the government
is not prevented, through the
legal process, from lawfully
implementing its chosen policies
and discharging its governmental
responsibilities.

heritage goals. The Ministry’s role is
to help make New Zealand culture
visible and accessible. and to deliver
cultural products and services to
New Zealanders and international
audiences.
The Ministry administers goverment
funding to cultural, arts, heritage,
sport and broadcasting Crown
entities and non-government
organisations.
The Ministry is responsible for:
provision of policy advice on
arts, culture, heritage and
broadcasting issues, including
legislation, major policy
proposals, anddevelopments and
initiatives which have significance
to the sector
