Fish & Game New Zealand is a public
entity and manages freshwater
fishing and game bird hunting
on behalf of anglers and hunters
Although reporting to the Minister
of Conservation, Fish & Game is
funded solely through the sale of
fishing and hunting licences.
Twelve Fish & Game regions do
the work on the ground and
the national office in Wellington
coordinates the work in the regions
and speaks for anglers and hunters
on national issues.
Fish & Game is governed by councils
elected by licence holders.
Fish & Game does not manage the
Taupo trout fishery; this is done by
the Department of Conservation.
Fish & Game is not responsible for
deer, pig or goat hunting, and does
not manage coastal salt water
fishing.
