The other independent statutory
officer is the Director of Proceedings
who decides whether to institute
legal proceedings against persons
or bodies who are the subject
of complaints and provides
representation for complainants in
those proceedings against providers
who have been referred by the
Commissioner.
Other functions of the
Commissioner include mediating
between consumers and providers
and making public statements
and recommendations on any
matters that may affect the rights of
consumers of health and disability
services.
In addition, the Health and Disability
Commissioner is tasked with
monitoring mental health and
addiction services and advocating
improvements to those services.
