The Broadcasting Standards
Authority, a crown entity,
was established by the 1989
Broadcasting Act and appointed by
Parliament to:

hear complaints against
broadcasters after they have been
heard first by the broadcaster
concerned
•
•
hear directly complaints alleging
breach of privacy
•
•
work with broadcasters (radio and
television) in developing codes
regarding programme standards,
and impose mandatory codes if
necessary
•
•
conduct research on broadcasting
standards.
